You’ve no doubt heard of all the benefits of using CBD – antiinflammation, anti-depressant, anxiety relief, treating chronic pain, etc. But all of these claims beg the questions, does CBD really work? Fortunately, CBD has been one of the most studied health supplements over the past few years, with researchers from all across the world testing existing claims regarding CBD, and also searching for new uses. So far, what has been discovered is that a lot of the health benefits and claims of CBD are factual, and the effects are measurable through clinical trails and research.
What Types of Studies are Done on CBD?
As with most health studies, research done on CBD mostly uses blind or double-blind trail groups to test the efficacy of CBD regarding various health benefits. Most often, studies are done using a “Control Group” – who are not given any CBD – and the test group who are given the CBD. The people in each group don’t know if they did, or did not, get the CBD which keeps their results unbiased. Results are then collected and analyzed by researchers to either support or refute the claims.
Which Claims Have Been Tested are Proven?
The overall amount of health benefits that have been tested for CBD would be too large to list – but several of the more well-known health benefits have been tested exhaustively. These include CBD’s anti-inflammatory properties, anti-anxiety & depression, and pain relief. These three key attributes of CBD are studied the most, and therefore we have the most clinical proof that they do work.
CBD as an Anti-Inflammatory
A recent study – https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC7023045/ – suggests that CBD is a powerful anti-inflammatory and antioxidant. CBD reacts with the CB2 receptors in the endocannabinoid system, which directly affects oxidative stress and inflammation.
CBD’s Anti-Anxiety Properties
In another study – https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4604171/ – CBD’s anti-anxiety properties are analyzed. This study concluded that CBD has potential for treating multiple anxiety disorders. CBD and the endocannabinoid system directly interact with the endocrine system, so CBD has influence over hormone levels which can heavily influence anxiety symptoms. CBD effects serotonin levels which can help to reduce anxiety and depression.
CBD and Pain Relief
Effective pain relief is one of the largest claims for CBD and its health benefits. In this study – https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC7204604/ – researchers examined CBD’s ability to help treat chronic pain. This study found that there is a great opportunity to use CBD for pain relief, especially in instances where normal pain treatments are unavailable or not possible.
