A New Study Shows That CBD Usage Can Help with COVID-19 Infections

It’s been known for a while now that CBD has a large number of medicinal uses. From being an anti-depressant & anti-anxiety medication, to possessing anti-inflammatory qualities, and so much more, Cannabidiol has proven itself to be a very versatile compound. It provides numerous medicinal benefits to the user, and researchers are still finding new medicinal uses for CBD – including in the fight against COVID-19.

In a new study done out of the University of Waterloo in Ontario researchers found that the use of CBD can actually help the body in fighting various pathogens, including SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19). What these researchers found is that CBD is able to essentially prime the innate immune systems within cells, which offers protection against invading pathogens. COVID-19 has a very specific protein structure – the “crown” shaped spike protein – and this study has shown that CBD is able to increase the cells’ response to these proteins. They did this by comparing how human kidney cells reacted with COVID-19, both with CBD and in a control group with no CBD.

The school says its researchers discovered that CBD increases the cell’s response to several key proteins produced by the coronavirus genome. It says the effect had not been discovered prior to the study.

The university says that the researchers looked at how the proteins from the genome operated in human kidney cells and healthy control cells, both with and without CBD. This study has been peer-reviewed and is currently waiting on publication.

This is another promising use of CBD, and goes to show that regular supplementation of a high-quality CBD oil can have incredible health benefits for people. On top of the current benefits that we now of for daily CBD supplementation, there are a plethora of medicinal uses for CBD oil that we not even discovered yet. Researchers continue to find new benefits for CBD usage, and because it doesn’t produce a high it can be supplemented daily without addiction or any notable adverse effects.
